Courtney & Russell Crowe at the Vanity Fair party in 2000.
“Hold On To Me” was written after a poetry-fuelled night with Russell Crowe after the Golden Globes in 2002.

Above, Courtney & Russell at a Vanity Fair party in 2001.
“I didn’t have anybody to write about. I wanted something that was fresh, passionate, lusty, loving, and all night long he held me and I cried. I wrote poetry everywhere - on his shirt, on the wall, everywhere. And I just cried and cried because I had not met another person who had eyes like mine, ever. And so I had this idea and I had the chorus and the next day I went into a studio and recorded it, and the lyrics came to me. “
“Russell is a really interesting and dark guy. Even just holding his hand I get shivers. He goes through hell. But I don’t know if he’s seen as many dead bodies as I have.”

Jocoy explains, “I like to photograph people who do things. Creative people are the best. They are special people. They have special gifts and I find them the most interesting.”

Doll Parts was directed by Sam Bayer, who also directed the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Sam on Courtney: I worked with Courtney six months after Kurt committed suicide, and that was a very heavy experience. We cast a little boy to play a young Kurt Cobain. Just knowing he was dead, and his daughter was there. It was very sobering and intense.

Courtney photographed by Kevin Cummins, 1994.
Kevin on Courtney: Yeah, I liked her a lot. Very complex. She was very happy to have her picture taken as well. We got on well, and we got a lot of pictures in a short burst. I arranged to meet her at 4pm and it was 2am when she eventually turned up.
